PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN SAN FRANCISCO ENGAGES IN GOLF DIPLOMACY WITH THE FILIPINO YOUNG LEADERS’ PROGRAM

San Francisco, California – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco participated in the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) golf tournament on 24 September 2018 held at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Burlingame, California. Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr., Consul André Peter C. Estanislao and other personnel of Post played 18-holes in the golf tournament as part of its activities under the Spark*Connect*Empower (SCE) movement and also Post’s public diplomacy program.

The golf tournament, organized by FYLPRO alumnus and current FYLPRO Vice President JR Calanoc, brings together members of the Filipino American community in the Bay Area to support the causes and objectives of the FYLPRO. Proceeds from the tournament will support the mission of FYLPRO to identify outstanding young professionals in the Filipino American communities across the United States and send them to the Philippines for a week-long community immersion with the hope that they develop strong love of the country and participate in the nation-building.

In his remarks after the tournament, Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr, thanked those who supported the event and said that the FYLPRO, being a Spark*Connect*Empower (SCE) partner, through this golf tournament, enables its participants to participate in nation building. The Consul General noted that beyond friendly competition in the game of golf, the event also spurs interaction and camaraderie among young Filipino-Americans.
