PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN SAN FRANCISCO LAUNCHES THE 2019 VERY IMPORTANT PINOY (AMBASSADORS’) TOUR AND FILGRIMAGE
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco held the Grand Launch of the 2019 Very Important Pinoy (Ambassadors’) Tour and Filgrimage at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center, on 16 November 2018. The VIP Tour, formerly known as the Ambassadors’ Tour, is the flagship tourism activity of all foreign service Posts in the United States, in coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Tourism, the Tourism Promotions Board, and Rajah Tours as tour coordinator.
The Launch was attended by guests from various travel agencies, media partners, and members of the Filipino community in the Bay Area. The Launch featured a performance from Filipino-American singer Zeyonce Brown. Philippine Airlines raffled off one economy class, round-trip ticket, from San Francisco to Manila to San Francisco.
In his welcome remarks, Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. highlighted the innovations for next year’s Tour. For 2019, to make the Tour more people-centered, the Tour has been rebranded as the Very Important Pinoy Tour. It is also launching early, a full eight months before the start of the Tour, and a budget-friendly installment payment plan has been introduced to make it more attractive for prospective participants. Finally, Filgrimage is being introduced as an official sub-tour. Geared towards millennials and Gen-Zs, Filgrimage shall take young Filipino-Americans to a journey to reconnect with their roots, and help in nation-building through socially oriented activities.
The Consulate is serving as the overall coordinator of the 2019 VIP Tour and Filgrimage, among all foreign service Posts in the United States. The 2019 VIP Tour will run from July 14 to 21, 2019, and will travel to Manila, Bataan, Clark and El Nido, where participants will see and experience the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage and see its natural wonders. Filgrimage will run from July 22 to 24, 2019, and participants will learn about the Philippines’ history through visits to Fort Santiago and Corregidor and take part in building a Gawad Kalinga village in Cavite.
Participants will be able to join the 2019 VIP Tour for as low as $1,100 (US$1,850 for those who wish to join the VIP Tour and Filgrimage).
