With guests and applicants who came to join the ceremony and avail of Chicago PCG’s consular services, the Consulate gathered before the Philippine flag to sing the national anthem and read the national Day message of DFA Secretary Allan S. Cayetano and H.E President Rodrigo R. Duterte on 14 June 2018.
In her welcome remarks, Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin talked about the Filipino forebears’ many toils and sacrifices to gain freedom and establish a country they can claim as their own. Inspired by their examples, the Consul General said that Filipinos today should not grow weary in their fight to effect change – for the fruits of this change is their offering for the future of the country.
During the event, Mr. John Magiunsay of Kaya ng Pinoy Foudnation, presented to Consul General Jamoralin a book entitled “Philippine Expedition, The Voyage of Balangay”. The book chronicles the journeys in the recent times of the vessel (Balangay). The boat is a reconstruction of an ancient vessel that the ancestors of Filipinos build to sail the seas as far East as Polynesia and as far West as Madagascar. Mr. Maguinsay scored the appropriateness of the Balangay as a symbol of the Filipinos’ pioneering spirit, masterful skills, and steadfastness.
